Platform Propulsion units released 28mm Ion Age range

“The platform itself is static on four titanium alloy struts with an integral titanium gun shield. It can be equipped with two kinds of propulsion.  Used by the Muster is the type 38 quad tracked Espaten Motive System which can keep pace with most infantry and used by the Retained is the MkXI Repuslar Motive System which holds the portable weapon just above ground level in a steady hover. Espaten Portable Weapons have gone from a relic of a bygone age to a core part of campaigning all across the Prydian Precinct.  They have earned their nicknames 'the spitters of death' on dozens of worlds.” Academy Auto-Trainer Series 07, New Glastonbury, 4325IC

Following up on last month when we released the classic Moth 88 Long Barrelled Cannon and Muster gun team along with brand new Retained and Planetary Militia gun teams we now give you the power of movement! Over 250 poses in the 28mm scale Ion Age range are joined by a tracked and a ‘repulsar’ anti-gravity propulsion unit which will carry your Portable Weapons on the battlefield.  All of the new releases are towards a new edition of MOTH the skirmish game rules but more on that nearer the time. Across this year we will expand the portable weapon itself and also restore and expand the Shia Khan ones too.

IB77 Espaten Tracked Propulsion Unit: A resin model with four tractor tread units and a central area which fits any Espaten portable weapon. Features a small linkage panel to any control unit equipped gun team.  One piece with a length of 60mm and width of 30mm.

IB78 Espaten Anti-Gravity Propulsion Unit: A resin model repulsar type floating disc with a central area which fits any Espaten portable weapon. Features a small linkage panel to any control unit equipped gun team. One piece with a length of 50mm and width of 40mm.  Supplied with the lifter base included!

If you missed the news last time read the full ARTICLE or filter the range to PORTABLE WEAPON to see all those codes. Every miniature in the range is a single to be had and all fit into value packs which offer a saving off single prices.

The 28mm Ion Age Range and the 15mm Ion Age Range are both massive so we have a ‘Filter by’ option on the website where you can refine what you are seeing to certain things such as Portable Weapons.  The new 28mm propulsion units are scaled up from the 15mm ones.

For those wanting serious numbers with an excellent saving of two miniatures included free then check out the PLATOON PACKS which we have for Retained Knights, Muster, Grima Combat Robots, Legionaries, Betrayers and Malig Goblins.

We like to give our customers a treat so there is always something free in every package shipped out by us here in Scotland.  Until August 5th it is part two of our Devilish Imps; four any scale miniatures.  Read about this in the ARTICLE.  Totally free in orders included automatically.

News on the overhaul of The Ion Age 28mm range

The Ion Age 28mm range. Over 220 miniatures 1991-2022.  Alternative Armies is overhauling imagery and sadly increasing prices (ten percent) as well as making all poses singles for the first time. Platoons, Packs, Singles.  We are just starting now.

IA001 through IA016 as well as IA075 to IA078 which are singles as well as in packs IB01,IB02,IB03,IB04 and IB20 each of four poses with a 5% saving built in.  Lastly IP01 Retained Lance (picture above) which is sixteen figures two of which are free.  Here are a few examples of the new single and pack pictures all of which are front, side and rear on their pages.

Have a gander at the website. This overhaul will take many weeks to complete and will be followed by more new releases and restored original codes too. Original prices on the website will be honoured until that code is updated and new pictures put in.

Thank you.

Stone Cold Lead paints up 28mm Noble of Prydia

“Across the Prydian Precinct a civil war rages for control of the throne. Marchers Barons who control entire world or even stellar systems raise mighty armies of Retained Knights and Muster before send them to contest the realms of their enemies. In the hierarchy of each knightly regiment the positions of supreme importance are given to Nobles. It is the Nobles who lead from the front in the finest of powered armours and fly the glittering banners of their baronies. Splendid they are and terrible in their wrath upon the field.”

It is my pleasure to present, following on the heels of the release of our new value platoon packs, the superb brush skills of Simon Bradley of Stone Cold Lead figure painting his interpretation of a Prydian Noble in 28mm scale. He features his work on his own Facebook page HERE which you can check out. Painted to a very high level of finish the miniature shown is IA103 Noble with Carnwennan Pistol (taken from pack IB27 Nobles of Prydia pose 2) in a simple colour scheme which really brings out the detail and soul of this leader of knights. The figure stands well over 30mm tall as it is a Noble and is a fine centre piece for a 28mm force. Here are some shots of Simon's work including a scale shot with a classic Citadel figure.

You may not realise this but our huge 28mm range of Prydian and Shia Khan miniatures has been almost totally replicated in the popular 15mm scale too and this includes the Prydian Noble who is the subject of this article. It is the middle pose in the pack.

IAF157 Nobles of Prydia
This pack contains three different 15mm nobles of the Precinct ideal to command your lances all wearing elaborate Alwite powered armour and carrying a mix of energy melee weapons and Carnwennan Pistol. A Noble leaning forward with decorate helm and Carnwennan Pistol. A Noble preparing Carnwennan Pistol. A Noble running with Carnwennan Pistol and plumed helm. Ideal for characters in the Prydian Army or any other force which uses Retained Knights such as the League of Yordan or League of Canlaster. Just choose your uniform. You have the option of purchasing a pack or three packs saving 10% or single poses from the pack for your collection. Price 3.00GBP per pack. Go HERE

We shall return later in the month with an update from Aris all about his games of Patrol Angis at the Articon event!

The Medusa Legion of the Khanate by Aris Kolehmainen

“It is the Legion that is the standard fighting formation of the Khanate Empire. Humanity has little knowledge of the languages used by the races of the Khan and has assigned the term ‘Legion’ to the enemy. There are a great many different Legions and each is given a different name typically from ancient mythology such as the Styx, Medusa, Priam, Venom, Scylla and Cyclopes Legions. This is down to the basic lack of identification than Prydian troops have with this alien enemy but it works well. Different uniforms and colours on roughly standardised armour and weapons mark out Legions. Some Legions like the infamous Styx have multiple sub-legions within themselves while others seem to be one force only. All Legions seem to number around five to six thousand alien troops along with supporting vehicles regardless of being a single or sub-legion.

Legionaries are the centre of all thus far encountered Legions and these tall and graceful alien soldiers can also be classed as more heavily armoured Pioneers who undertake close in combat. It is surmised that the ultimate embodiment of a Legionary is a Nox powered armoured soldier though these are present in lesser numbers. There are many other ‘client’ or slave races arranged around the core of each Legion including Maligs, Warlords, Psycoborgs, Beotans, Pertinax and Saurad. This seems dependant upon the environment being fought over with urban environments featuring more Maligs and Psycoborgs for instance. It is important to state that Maligs seem to be herded but not attached directly to a Legion and can number many additional thousands.”  - Extract from IAB03 The Khanate Returns.

It is my great pleasure to present these images from the 15mm Ion Age collection of long time Patrol Angis player Aris Kolehmainen.  The Legionaries and others of the fabled and feared Medusa Legion.  While our own official uniform for all Shia Khan codes is that of the Styx Legion in red and black that was not what Aris desired and instead inspired by The Khanate Returns book where the Empire is details for play in Patrol Angis sought out the colours of another legion; the Medusa Legion.  Grey, Light Green and Purples make up the Medusa Legion uniform.

The Medusa Legion is not the largest of the Khanate formations which came through the Matter Gateway on Camarthen Prime but it is one with a reputation.  Specialising in urban warfare the legionaries of the Medusa freeze up whole zones of meta city sprawl with assault tesserans of Pioneers and of suicidal client races.  They also make great use of Psycoborgs and other automated troops which patrol deep into abandoned blocks and boulevards seeking out residual fire-teams of Planetary Militia or Muster.  A more exotic unit fielded in urban areas instead of Pugnus and Sphera rolling armour are modified and enlarged Psycoborgs which are a match for the Afara Striders of the Prydian Army.

I have put links to codes in the pictures after each photo but a special mention of these larger automated units.  These are found in the HOF 15mm Science Fiction Range at Alternative Armies as HOF16 and HOF17 Giant Mechanoids.  I have added them to the Resource Wars page of The Ion Age website and they are in stock alongside the other HOF codes we have such as Charger APC's and Maginot Gun Turret plus Sandworms.  An interesting side note for those who have been with Alternative Armies for a long time the Giant Mechanoids are actually the original Psychoborgs from the 28mm Firefight range of the early 1990's.  Full circle!

The Scale shot.  From the left a Psycoborg, Legionary, Pioneer special officer, Warlord and back row Giant Mechanoid
Pioneers.  Special Ordos Officer and Banner Bearer from IAFP09 Pioneer Ordos.

A Trio of hulking Warlords from IAF039 Khanate Warlords.

Medusa Legionaries, rifles, from IAF006.

Medusa Legionaries, Apollo ADS, from IAF011.

Medusa Legion 1st Tesseran assaulters from IAF012.

A Trio of robotic Psycoborg hunters from IAF134.

If you fancy getting into Patrol Angis which is our 15mm scale fast paced skirmish system you can do so HERE.  We have a starter game pack which contains the core book plus a lot of miniatures and bases with a saving.  We have three books in print or as digital downloads and they can be had as saver bundles as well.

My thanks for Aris for supplying the pictures of his collection to use.

Firefight 2.0 Tiles only option now on website

This is a short post and the name says it all.  I do wonder why I did not see the need here for the tile sheets from Firefight 2.0 to be available on their own.  Perhaps Lady Rosafiend distracted me.  So if you want to expand your city streets for the 28mm science fiction game of intense gridded combat in The Ion Age you can now.

Click on the drop down menu on the product page and you will see the options for the book and tiles, boxed set game or just the tiles.

Firefight 2.0 back in stock at The Ion Age

Just a quick post to let you all know the Firefight 2.0 the Ion Age game of 28mm intense urban combat is back in stock.  We ran out just before the Salute show and I took the final few copies to the show on the day.  Apologies to those who tried to order it before the end of the promo period and so to make up I have placed an offer upon it.  Ten percent off the book with tiles and the same off the boxed set with the miniatures and dice included.  Excellent!

You can find the Firefight rules on the website.

While our focus is primarily on the 15mm Ion Age range just now we do have two hundred 28mm miniatures, the original range, with some new ones on the website.  This is a great chance to get in on a unique combat game which still holds my attention twenty years after I first found out about it....yes that long.

Thanks for Reading.
