Play Test rules for Starvaulters in Patrol Angis on our Facebook Group

Work is progressing upon the forth book in the series for Patrol Angis the 15mm scale space opera wargame from The Ion Age.  I over see all of the titles published by and going to be published by Alternative Armies and The Ion Age and such with several new titles ongoing the work on Baron has been slow. Sorry!  Baron will be a source book for the Prydian Precinct with a focus upon the Civil War and the Marcher Barons.  Within Baron one new faction will be introduced...The Starvaulters.  The best of the best and the true Knights of the Stellar Vastness who live by the Code Gallant.

Do you want to try out the new rules?

In Baron this new faction is the only part of the book with all new game mechanics.  There are other new rules in the book too but these are smaller in scope and inserted into existing frameworks. The Starvaulters need some final testing.  We have done the initial play in house and have got them all but ready after two attempts but we are now offering a chance to field these knights to those interested.  Feedback upon the new troops, infantry scale vehicles, personalities, gear and skills is most welcome.  These are powerful troops.  Everything in the play test document will be featured in the final book and we are already making the miniatures too.  In fact in the document is an image of the first Starvaulter sculpts.  Every person who assists in the testing will be credited in the book.

If you wish to get the play testing document then go to the Alternative Armies Tabletop Gaming group on Facebook and download it from the post on the group where it is attached.  It will be there for the next several weeks and you are most welcome to come along and talk Patrol Angis.  Just apply to join our friendly group and then throw some dice.  As you would expect you do need a copy of Patrol Angis in print or digital to make use of the play test document.  You can find the game HERE on our website.

Baron has been slowly building up with me since last year and this is the final stage of testing needed for it.  See you on the group!

Thanks for Reading,

Fourth Patrol Angis book will be called Baron!

As announced on the 1st of August 2017 we are entering the leading edge of the second phase for The Ion Age and my own contribution to this will be the forth book for Patrol Angis.  If you missed this important article you can read it on our BLOG.  The forth title will be a setting book which will be of interest not only to players of Patrol Angis but also any of the other Ion Age game systems past, present and future.  It will be called 'Baron' and it is the story of the Prydian Civil War.

As you can see there will be a lot packed into the sixty four pages of Baron.  The tale of the more than thirty years of the Civil War from the death of King Cyon at Fenway Prime to the climatic defeat of the League of Yordan led by Reckhart Nevall at Lundwick III.  The star systems of the Precinct will give you details and events for all of the important places during the Civil War as well as their uniforms, tactics and more.  Marcher Barons are the powerful leaders and lords of the systems and this book will explain the League of Canlaster, the League of Yordan as well as other baronial forces large and small. Condots are knights and muster who sell their swords to the highest bidder and you will learn about the infamous among them such as the Quarrel Company of the legendary Diodine Sparrow.

There are also two sections of the Baron book which will bring new rules and statistics along with troops and characters to Patrol Angis.  These are the introduction of the illustrious Starvaulters...yes...the golden haired rock gods of space opera...million strong and the best warriors in the Precinct.  A full account of their armour, weapons, troop types, vehicles as well as lance organisation and the Code Gallant.  Secondly advanced character and personality rules.  These will add right onto the ones found in the core Patrol Angis book with points costs and will give more customisation of your miniatures.  There will also be some of the most important characters along with their rules in play such as Edmund Bluefort, Reckhart Nevall, Diodine Sparrow, Marcus Flame and Thomas de Lancey.

(Above is the only current 15mm Starvaulter and it is a one off sculpt..for now.
You can find it in the Year One Collection)

The creation of this book is currently under way among my work upon Flintloque and upon Valon, upon Darkhelm and other projects too.  I am aiming for publication later this year and hope to get Sam Croes to create another epic piece of cover art for the book too.  But before that I would like to point you towards the Alternative Armies Tabletop Gaming Group which is where I hang out on Facebook answering questions and talking gaming.  I am putting a thread up asking for input on Baron such as which new skills, abilities, objects and more you would like to see in the advanced rules.  There are dozens of players of Patrol Angis in the group and all who chip in with suggestions on the thread will get a credit in the book.  If you are not a member then please do apply to join and I will let you in. It is a lovely small group and very friendly.

If you want to email me direct then do so with your input to info@theionage.com or comment on the blog post.

IMP17 Far Trader free miniature for January 2015

“The Prydian Precinct has more than fifty star systems with a Human population of more than a hundred billion. These are the core systems. There are also several hundred more remote, less populated and also in some cases quarantined star systems. Information on most of these systems is limited due to lack of reliable reports and stable outposts. They are beyond the remit of the Prydian Army and while some are the domains of minor Marcher Barons or Condots using them as bases or petty fiefdoms. The quarantined systems such as Gurtan have a no transit ban that is enforced but can in some cases be bypassed with some skill. It is into these remote and often uncivilised places that the Far Traders operate. Far Traders are individuals with a crew or retinue and ownership of a starship with Ancep Drive such as the Oban or Warwick class shuttles and cargo shuttles. Though expensive to run due to the requirements of an Ancep Drive on such a small ship Far Traders are adept at turning a profit. Dealing in rare minerals, goods, data and the transit of paying passengers an experienced Far Trader can live very well. Some times used by Knight Generals as scouts they can be trusted up to an extent and many have loyalty to the Addans and the Throne though this is may be for profits sake rather than any notion of the Code Gallant. Far Traders sometimes act alongside Starvaulters in situations such as Gyre hunts and exploration where their motivations cross paths on the edges of the precinct. There are also records of Far Traders throwing in their lot in with Planetary Militia to defend small colonies in return for future rights to trade. The auto-trainer series has access to more than forty thousand registered Far Traders of note which the student can access upon request.”

Welcome to 2015!  We really are living in the sci-fi future now arn't we.  The year of setting for Back to the Future among other things.  Lets crack on!

The IMP17 Far Trader is January 2015's free miniature which is automatically put into every order at the rate of one per order of any value. It can also be bought in any amount too on the Monthly IMP page of the website. A Human trader, merchant, adventurer and fortune seeker who takes his armed cargo ship across the Prydian Precinct. Not a fighter but he can defend himself he avoids the conflict zones and visits out of the way star systems. Standing arms folded in a long coat with cyber implants on his head for rapid calculation and remote controlling he is a great character suitable for any 15mm science fiction setting. It stands 16mm tall and is in one white metal piece. Here are some views of the miniature from different angles:

Of course you earn reward points on all orders too through your account. We realise that some of you may wish to purchase the currently free miniature to get multiples of it without placing a lot of orders so you can do just that. Visit this page on the website for the miniature at a fair price for a special miniature. There is a growing page on the Ion Age website where the current and all former IMP series free miniatures are shown so that you can see what came before. Enjoy and go HERE

As it is our second year we look back at this time last year and see what the free miniature was at that time. In January 2015 the free miniature was IMP05 Winter Musterman. It was our fifth miniature to be given out free. You can find this miniature in the Year One Collection if you are lacking it.

I would like to take this chance to thank everyone who contacted us and ordered from us in December and during the festive period. We are returning to normal and orders will be shipping out once more beginning in the next few days. 2015 is a brand new year and we are going to be expanding in a big way with new vehicle types, new armies, aliens and more so keep on watching us.

This starts with the Planetary Militia expansion and we will have information on this shortly. The Planetary Militia will see The Ion Age create the last part of our 28mm range into 15mm scale and give you the forces to enact planetary defence against invaders and domestic threats from the Marcher Barons to the Khanate Empire and more.

Thanks for reading and Happy New Year!

IMP12 Starvaulter Instructor free miniature for August 2014

“Its been a year since we began the space opera dream of The Ion Age so I want to give our friends and customers something special for the anniversary twelfth free monthly miniature.  What should it be?  How about something that's coming in the next twelve months?  Yes.  Good idea.  I know just the thing.  Spoken of in the fiction of the Prydian Civil War and hinted at in quests and adventures and in fact the best of the best when it comes to Human warriors.  The Starvaulters.  Sitting at the top of the military tree for the Prydian Army but actually answerable to the Aeddan Council on New Glastonbury Tor the Starvaulters are proper Space Knights.  Obeying the Code Gallant they take up quests which bring them into contact with foes as diverse as Marcher Barons, The Khanate Empire, The Zin and aliens as yet unknown.  I am sure they pass on their combat knowledge to the ranks of the Retained as instructors.  A fitting birthday treat for IonFans.”

The IMP12 Starvaulter Instructor is August 2014's free miniature which is automatically put into every order at the rate of one per order of any value.  It can also be bought in any amount too on the monthly IMP page of the website.  Starvaulters are master warriors who have proved their mettle.  Wearing MkVIII Alwite armour and carrying a Valerin 3MW Laser Rifle the instructor is minus his helmet and instead shows the long hair that mark out his kind.  Designed by Sam Croes he is to be the first of many.  About  18mm tall he is a big fellow and bulky in his armour. too   A real character. This miniature is a fine addition to any 15mm science fiction collection for any game system.

So this is the last month in the first year of the free monthly miniatures series.  I am already looking back at the earlier miniatures such as the Knight of the Dead from November and remarking it seems so long ago. All of the Year One Collection is now online if you missed any or just want more.  Year Two will begin in September 2014 with IMP13 but lets focus on the here and now.  August is going to be a big month.  More on this in a few days.

Lastly yes this does mean that you can now get IMP12 before month's end but I am cool with that. This is being done for my benefit as I will be travelling on the 1st of August.  But any orders that come in from this point until August will get IMP11 Female Adventurer AND IMP12 Starvaulter Instructor free automatically with bought codes.  Any questions asked and comments wrote will be answered upon my return, so I am not ignoring you all!

Thanks for Reading.
