IAF121 Entertainers 

The seventh pack of 15mm characters in the Ion Age Universe range.  On planets across the Precinct there are people who need to be entertained after a hard day of work or dangerous military roles and that becomes the paid for task of these musicians, singers and dancers.  Happy Burger gives you the eats and these entertainers give you the heats! This pack contains five different 15mm scale white metal miniatures in the following poses.  Male lead guitarist, female singer in dress, female singer in one piece waving, female singer swaying to music and lastly a male guitarist finger in the air. 

IAF120 Security Droids

The sixth pack of 15mm characters in the Ion Age Universe range.  Droids do the dirty work that people don't want and even though they no longer have sentience since the Gurtan Activation they do have dense limited programming making them suitable for repetitive and dangerous jobs.  Personal and location security are such tasks and this often puts these droids in harms way. This pack contains five different 15mm scale white metal miniatures in the following poses.  Stocky and short announcer droid with stun prongs, a Human droid operator for complex tasks with harness, a light crowd directing droid, a heavy security 'bouncer' droid and lastly a high speed patrol security droid. 

IAF108 Precinct Starport Staff

The fifth pack of 15mm characters in the Ion Age Universe range.  While the mighty vessels of the Prydian Army and the Marcher Barons sail the inky blackness they do have to dock somewhere as do far traders and civilians too.  There are many starports in the Precinct from the gigantic New Glastonbury Tor to the multitude of smaller and tiny ports scattered across the inhabited systems. These ports all require staff and some are better than others but all exist to serve the migrant populations that pass through their airlocks.

Information Burst!

This month every order gets IMP38 Male Adventurer free automatically. IMP38 Male Adventurer free for all October 2016!

The bumper Prang Army month is now over and The Ion Age gives a big shout out to all those who took up on the big and bulky aliens all across the world. There will be full details upon release but I want to tell you now that the platoon pack will contain sixteen miniatures one of which is a unique extra free one; an officer. The Barony of Malmsbury on the edge of Prydian space

Looking out upon the unknown space beyond the bounds of the Prydian Precinct, where the wreckage lays, far from the core systems and further still from the war against the Khanate Empire is the Barony of Malmsbury.  Beginning the civil war within the ranks of the Yordan barons who sided with the Kingmaker Nevell the death of Baron Robert 'Pillager' Fintzhue saw Malmsbury switch sides and ally itself with the Throne in 4331 IC.  Now an enemy of the League of Yordan this single stellar system has the darkness to its back and the enemy still to its front.  Don't you just love the Havelock Battlesuit.  You can download this article as a PDF for free from our Dropbox by clicking HERE.

08 Barony of Malmesbury

The Barony of Malmsbury is located on edge of the Prydian Precinct in the Malmsbury stellar system.  This planet rich system contains two worlds capable of supporting life whose names are Rowde (Malmsbury III) and Broham (Malmsbury IV) as well as several gas giants and a molten rock orbiting its star very closely.  Contained to one system the Barony is not as wealthy as many others and not even as wealthy as some other single system Baronies.  This is due partially to being so distant to the core of the Precinct for trade and also to a lack of precious metals and arable land on the dusty world of Broham.  

Until 4331 IC the noble family of Fintzhue ruled by baronial decree over the Malmsbury stellar system and came into conflict during the period of first Ancept expansion with neighbouring worlds (Broham which was held by the Strangen family) and then neighbouring systems such as Alix and Linnuis Prime during the late 4200's IC.  It fell to the final ruling member of the marcher family Baron Robert 'Pillager' Fintzhue to declare his support of the League of Yordan by attacking the Barony of Linnuis in a dishonest sneaking action using disguised commercial starships.  In this vicious assault the baron earned the moniker 'Pillager' due to his refusal to take prisoners as per the Code Gallant and for carrying off goods and valuable prisoners.  

With his reputation as a wicked adventurer known to those baronies and condot companies in his region of space Baron Fintzhue carried out raids and damaging attacks upon the enemies of the League of Yordan. These actions included a hard fought repulsion of an invading task force of the veteran mercenaries of the Naranga Company of his home world of Rowde in 4326 IC which left him badly injured.  This injury led to a decreasingly stable mental state which in 4331 IC saw him deposed and then executed atop the ramparts of his fortress on Rowde in a coup which then declared its loyalty to Princess Cyon and the Aeddan Council.  Three regiments of the Prydian Army supported by condots of the Gryllus Company assisted in guiding the Barony of Malmsbury to peace.  It is headed by a cousin of 'the Pillager' the now Baron Alger Fintzhue.  Alger has adopted the Code Gallant and rules through cooperation with the Throne.

A Muster Fire-Team with Hazelwurm support

The military forces of the Barony of Malmsbury are focused upon the expansive use of regiments of Muster troops and a lot of Battlesuit support.  Due to the continual lack of hard currency the heavier armour and portable castles of the Barony are of older marks and tend towards wheeled and hover variants and limited use of Hurwent generators.  There are two hundred regiments of Muster equipped along standard Precinct patterns as well as a five million strong Rowde Planetary Militia and a one million strong Broham Planetary Militia.  There are ten regiments of Retained Knights who work closely with the Malmsbury Muster in all areas.  Much use is made of Havelock Battlesuits which are deployed in place of portable weapons and bikes at the platoon level.   Malmsbury has many personalised Havelocks and also full fabricator plants to assemble these battlesuits enmasse.  Portable Castles are mainly of the older Cassillis marks and Malmsbury possesses seventeen jump capable starships of the Serpentine and Griffin types.

In the annuls of the Academy Auto Trainers held on New Glastonbury the most famous military campaign of the Barony of Malmsbury is that of repulsion of the invading Naranga Company on Rowde in 4326 IC.  Coming in from out system under heavy acceleration nine starships belonging to the Canlastrian backed mercenaries landed some thirty thousand veteran troops around the capital city Layswater on Rowde managing to do so before planetary defences could be sufficiently readied. With much of  the forces belonging to Malmsbury no where near it fell to the Rowde Planetary Militia as well as available Muster with Havelock support to mount a defence.  Led by Baron Robert 'Pillager' Fintzhue himself, who happened to be in Layswater, the fighting raged for nearly a week before the Baron put himself into the fray.  From the front he assaulted the toughest position held by the mercenaries and broke their hold while in the process being horribly burned by plasma fire from the enemy.  The Naranga Company boosted for orbit leaving their dead behind and escaped having failed to take the capital and force the surrender of the Barony to Canlaster.  It stands as an excellent example to new knights of how to repel an invader and is required study.

The battle dress of the Barony of Malmsbury is recognised across the Prydian Precinct for its heraldry and legitimate claim to a stellar system.  It consists of a black uniform base with bright yellow detailing.  The baronial symbol used most widely for Malmsbury is a black lion rampant upon a bright yellow field.  This uniform is carried over into the Planetary Militia formations.  Malmsbury heavier vehicles and armour such as striders follow an emphasis upon brown with black and yellow to mark out their superior status on the battlefield.

For wargamers wishing to put the Marcher Baron forces of Malmsbury into their games of Patrol Angis the process is quite straight forward 15mm scale.  As this is a Prydian Precinct faction taking place during the period of the Civil War and after that the standard Prydian Army miniatures painted up as this Barony will suit the task ideally.  Suitable codes for use are IAFP07 Planetary Militia Platoon with Unique Miniature which will give you the militias of the home system along with IAF054 Hazelwurm and IAF061 Colebretta Carrier for their transport.  The bulk of Malmsbury is made up of Muster and Battlesuits and to that end we recommend a core force of IAFP04 Muster Platoon with Unique Miniature and IAF020 Havelock Battlesuits to make up your platoons.  Personalties for higher level command can come from IAF057 Knight Errants of Prydia and IAF004 Retained Knight Command Alpha.  You will of course need your copy of Patrol Angis to play. Assemble your force using the standard creation rules in the book to suit your take on this faction. Marcher Barons and Condot Mercenaries on the whole use the same armour, weapons and equipment as the Prydian Army with different uniform colours and heraldry.  Possibilities are endless!

Year Three Collection Released!

Year Three Begins!  Now that our third year of The Ion Age is at a close its time to release the twelve monthly free miniatures as set which can be bought as a set or as singles.  From September 2015 to August 2016 each of the IMF 15mm scale code monthly free were given away with all orders month by month. It has been a fun and challenging year for the tiny team that brings you The Ion Age (almost everything you see is myself and the awesome Sam Croes along with input from a few other designers such as Bob Naismith).  I am always grinning when working on this universe and the emails and comments of wargamers keep on telling me that we are doing the right things.   A small team here in Scotland that works hard following its own path for a massive vision of a far future space opera setting.  All of the money you spend with us creates honestly priced new miniatures from a team that loves wargaming.  That now said the 15mm range has over three hundred different sculpts spread across Retained, Desteria, Muster and Planetary Militia along with Shia Khan Legion, Nox, Pioneers, Maligs and Nox and more including the Prang and Ion Age civilians too.  We have about forty different vehicles and a range of buildings with two dozen different pieces.  We have Patrol Angis and Callsign Taranis too as our books.  We will keep on getting better!

Year Three Begins!  Now that our second year of The Ion Age is at a close its time to release the twelve monthly free miniatures as set which can be bought as a set or as singles.  From September 2014 to August 2015 each of the IMF code monthly free's were given away with all orders month by month.  So if you missed any or want more just check out the Year Two Collection now.  Its been added to a new page that also has the Year One Collection upon it as well as the current month's free miniature keeping the 'years collections' all in one place.

Its been a fast second year for me and for the small team (really just myself and the awesome Sam Croes most of the time) who bring you The Ion Age.  Some of you think we are far bigger, some of you think we are American and a few of you think we are cool young guys.  Well you are right on the last one!  A small team here in Scotland that works hard following its own path for a massive vision of a far future space opera setting.  All of the money you spend with us creates honestly priced new miniatures from a team that loves wargaming.  That now said the 15mm range has just over three hundred different sculpts spread across Retained, Desteria, Muster and Planetary Militia along with Shia Khan Legion, Nox, Pioneers, Maligs and Nox.  We have about thirty different vehicles (not counting sub variants) and a range of buildings with two dozen different pieces.  Not bad in two years eh!  The next year...well we are going to get bigger and bigger and introduce things beyond the current scope of the website as well as more books.

Adder Cars and Lifters Offer and Control Variants released!

A detailed account of the origins and design of the Adder series of Combat Cars and Lifters can be found elsewhere in the database.  However not all the Adders taken from the ancient military designs were of a wheeled variety there were others too.  In some campaigns the Muster required light vehicles that could traverse ground that wheeled and tracked designs could not.  While repulsar technology was available its relative expense compared to more primitive lifter technology for hover propulsion made the production of a huge number of Adder Combat Lifters the feasible choice for equipping the Prydian Army.  Worlds with a lot of water and swamps and also urban zones with broken ground were ideal for these vehicles.   They could carry a four man fire-team or they could act in a support role with mounted weapons in the same range as those used by crewed weapons or battlesuits.  A modular hull meant that often only the turret and some internal systems had to be changed over to create a new model in the series.  

Adder Combat Lifters and Cars come in many types within the series.  With an average weight of just over seven tons and roughly seventeen feet in length that Adder is not as resilient a vehicle as the Mullo used by the Retained but its easier to maintain.  A colour coding system is in use to make Adders easy to assign to Regiments (and indeed the Marcher Barons use the same system) and to allow Muster who can sometimes not be as used to war as a Retained Knight a simple recognition method.  The Red Adder is the standard Combat Lifter with space for four and mounting a turret with a Moth 88 Rotary Cannon.  The Yellow Adder is  the fire support lifter and has two crew along with a turret with a twin Anda 60mm Missile Pod.  The Black Adder acts as an armoured punch giving the Muster the ability to knock out battlesuits and other smaller tough targets with two crew and a turret mounted Fretan Rail Gun.  Less common is the Orange Adder which is infantry support mounting a specialised turret with a Moth 30 automatic 50mm Grenade Launcher which is a recent introduction to the series.  Others in the Adder lifter series include the Green Adder which is a command and control at the platoon and company level and the White Adder for medical teams and battlefield triage.  The 'Battle Taxi' type Grey Adder is heavily modified and can carry two fire-teams or a whole squad at a real squeeze.  There are also some very specialised Adders too for purposes such as Blue Adder, the Brown Adder and the Purple Adder.  Every Muster Regiment is in possession of hundreds of Adders across the spectrum for all its roles and since they are so easy to fabricate and to maintain they are making a real impact in the ongoing Civil War and in the Camarthen Star System too.

IMP17 Far Trader free miniature for January 2015

“The Prydian Precinct has more than fifty star systems with a Human population of more than a hundred billion. These are the core systems. There are also several hundred more remote, less populated and also in some cases quarantined star systems. Information on most of these systems is limited due to lack of reliable reports and stable outposts. They are beyond the remit of the Prydian Army and while some are the domains of minor Marcher Barons or Condots using them as bases or petty fiefdoms. The quarantined systems such as Gurtan have a no transit ban that is enforced but can in some cases be bypassed with some skill. It is into these remote and often uncivilised places that the Far Traders operate. Far Traders are individuals with a crew or retinue and ownership of a starship with Ancep Drive such as the Oban or Warwick class shuttles and cargo shuttles. Though expensive to run due to the requirements of an Ancep Drive on such a small ship Far Traders are adept at turning a profit. Dealing in rare minerals, goods, data and the transit of paying passengers an experienced Far Trader can live very well. Some times used by Knight Generals as scouts they can be trusted up to an extent and many have loyalty to the Addans and the Throne though this is may be for profits sake rather than any notion of the Code Gallant. Far Traders sometimes act alongside Starvaulters in situations such as Gyre hunts and exploration where their motivations cross paths on the edges of the precinct. There are also records of Far Traders throwing in their lot in with Planetary Militia to defend small colonies in return for future rights to trade. The auto-trainer series has access to more than forty thousand registered Far Traders of note which the student can access upon request.”

Welcome to 2015!  We really are living in the sci-fi future now arn't we.  The year of setting for Back to the Future among other things.  Lets crack on!

The IMP17 Far Trader is January 2015's free miniature which is automatically put into every order at the rate of one per order of any value. It can also be bought in any amount too on the Monthly IMP page of the website. A Human trader, merchant, adventurer and fortune seeker who takes his armed cargo ship across the Prydian Precinct. Not a fighter but he can defend himself he avoids the conflict zones and visits out of the way star systems. Standing arms folded in a long coat with cyber implants on his head for rapid calculation and remote controlling he is a great character suitable for any 15mm science fiction setting. The Planetary Militia will see The Ion Age create the last part of our 28mm range into 15mm scale and give you the forces to enact planetary defence against invaders and domestic threats from the Marcher Barons to the Khanate Empire and more.
