Year Three Collection Released!

Year Three Begins!  Now that our third year of The Ion Age is at a close its time to release the twelve monthly free miniatures as set which can be bought as a set or as singles.  From September 2015 to August 2016 each of the IMF 15mm scale code monthly free were given away with all orders month by month. So if you missed any or want more just check out the Year Three Collection now.  Its been added to a new page that also has the Year One Collection, the Year Two Collection and others things upon it as well as the current month's free miniature keeping the 'years collections' all in one place.  Go HERE or read on.

It has been a fun and challenging year for the tiny team that brings you The Ion Age (almost everything you see is myself and the awesome Sam Croes along with input from a few other designers such as Bob Naismith).  I am always grinning when working on this universe and the emails and comments of wargamers keep on telling me that we are doing the right things.   A small team here in Scotland that works hard following its own path for a massive vision of a far future space opera setting.  All of the money you spend with us creates honestly priced new miniatures from a team that loves wargaming.  That now said the 15mm range has over three hundred different sculpts spread across Retained, Desteria, Muster and Planetary Militia along with Shia Khan Legion, Nox, Pioneers, Maligs and Nox and more including the Prang and Ion Age civilians too.  We have about forty different vehicles and a range of buildings with two dozen different pieces.  We have Patrol Angis and Callsign Taranis too as our books.  We will keep on getting better!

So what is the Year Three Collection?  You can see it HERE. Here is a list of the miniatures by month in this collection:

IMP25 Muster "Cutter" Trooper (September 2015)
IMP26 Female Nox Trooper (October 2015)
IMP27 Florian Pumpkin Spore (November 2015)
IMP28 Missiletoe Claus (December 2015)
IMP29 Cold Climes PM Sergeant (January 2016)
IMP30 Xin Monkey Bot (February 2016)
IMP31 Padraig O'Malig (March 2016)
IMP32 Hand of the Duxis (Female Tech) (April 2016)
IMP33 Planetary Militia Female Officer (May 2016)
IMP34 Happy Burger Clownbot (June 2016)
IMP35 Cybernetic Retained Knight (July 2016)
IMP36 Prefecta Aimar of the Styx Legion (August 2016)

Each miniature is 0.60GBP or the whole set for 7.00GBP or you can purchase three sets and save 10% by selecting that option on the drop down product menu.  That is a very diverse collection of characters and fun 15mm miniatures.  Year Four will be full of promise and fun and the first miniatures which will become IMP37 to IMP40 are already designed...you will love them!

As it is our birthday month we have a great offer for you until month's end. The IAF028 Khamel Tracked Bike set is 25% off the pack of three miniatures (Bike with Rider, Bike alone and Rider on foot) and there is 25% off the Bike with Rider on its own for those wanting to build a big force!  As well as this we have recently committed to new molds for this code and when we did we added in a third weapon mount option!  Every bike supplied now comes with one of the following: A Moth Type 12, a Ron 32mm and now a Minstrel Taser too!  You can read the original release article on the blog HERE.  You need do nothing but add to your cart the special prices and new weapon is already there.

Thanks for Reading.

Rewards Programme upgraded and expanded!

When we began The Ion Age we had a dream of a unique miniature universe and while we have been building towards that for two and a half years we have gathered many hundreds of regular customers. These customers, as all customers do upon their first order, signed up to the Rewards Programme when they opened a personal account with us. Every order with us earns Reward Points and those points can be used to get discounts or free items in or on future orders with us. The Rewards Programme has remained the same since we began...until now! We have upgraded the programme and expanded it. Here are the details.

The first thing to say is that the value of each point you have or will earn is UNCHANGED so there is no alteration in what you have earned. We will not short change you, not now, not ever. The second thing is that all of the existing rewards have now been removed and replaced as of 3th November 2015. There are five new levels of rewards and they range from the use of 300 Points up to 9000 Points. Three levels of customer discount applicable to all orders and used before leaving the cart. Two levels of free product that will be added to your order and shipped at our expense to you worldwide.

10% Discount on an Order – 300 Points
Use of this code on your order will take 300 points from your account total and on screen reduce your product total for the order, of any size, by 10%. This is done prior to the addition of the flat shipping charge and if you qualify for free shipping this will still be applied.

15% Discount on an Order – 900 Points
Use of this code on your order will take 900 points from your account total and on screen reduce your product total for the order, of any size, by 15%. This is done prior to the addition of the flat shipping charge and if you qualify for free shipping this will still be applied.

20% Discount on an Order – 1800 Points
Use of this code on your order will take 1800 points from your account total and on screen reduce your product total for the order, of any size, by 20%. This is done prior to the addition of the flat shipping charge and if you qualify for free shipping this will still be applied.

Commander Murdo's Unique Taranis MBT – 2000 Points
Use of this code on your order will take 2000 points from your account total on screen and add the unique Taranis Tracked Main Battle Tank worth 20.00GBP to your package. This is RWP02 Commander Murdo's Taranis Tank which is now on our website in the Rewards Programme page. It is a resin kit, a modified tank with a standard lower hull, left tracked propulsion units, right tracked propulsion unit plus and a unique upper hull and command turret (originally from IAF100B) and a white metal sponson gun. While this kit can be purchase as normal it can be had free for points! We will have an article on this kit during November. Go HERE.

Habitation Colony Bundle – 9000 Points
Use of this code on your order will take 9000 points from your account total on screen and add the IAF044BU03 Habitation Colony Bundle of 15mm resin terrain worth 125.00GBP to your package. This is an entire Habitation Colony with more than twenty pieces and it will provide enough structures for a standard table. You can see its exact contents HERE. While this bundle can be purchased as normal it can be had free for points! Its a big box but we will ship it for free anywhere in the world when you use your points to get it free.

All of these new rewards are online now and you can see them when you log into your account with The Ion Age. We hope you enjoy them and we welcome feedback for customer long term and brand new too. Contact us on info@theionage.com

Patrol Angis 15mm Science Fiction Rules Pre-Order Offers!

15MM SKIRMISH WARGAME RULES SET IN THE ION AGE
Go HERE.   15% Off Pre-Order Until June 1st 2015 Offer!

Wargame rules for use with 15mm miniatures and models from theionage.com. An enjoyable playing experience in a space opera setting unlike any other. Tactically challenging but not complex, these rules reward players for their playing and not by the use of endless charts, tables and over powered characters. Once familiar with the game rules, in a single hour you can play a full game with another person or several or on your own in solo play. The rules will not take long to learn and are suitable for wargamers of all ages from novice to veteran. They are fun and can be expanded into other titles in the series.

Patrol Angis is a skirmish level of wargame which means it typically has between a dozen and about forty 15mm scale miniatures a side in play during a game. It works well with more but those amounts are ideal. Most games have one Platoon sized force per player and have one or two or maybe even three players. A Platoon or Lance which contains typically twenty two (22) miniatures. In Patrol Angis you play either as the Prydian Army in its quest to reclaim worlds lost to the Marcher Barons during the Civil War or you can play in the employ of Canlaster or Yordist or any of the other dozen smaller array of Marcher Barons. This includes playing as a “Conda”' or paid professional mercenary for any side.

This is low intensity warfare title where troops mainly on foot, root each other out over small objectives. It’s not massive, not often glamorous, but it’s pure adventure, it’s the stuff of heroes and it’s skirmishing at its best! Easy to get into and to build upon. It’s the starting point for your wargaming in The Ion Age!

In the book you will find the full skirmishing rules along with solo play, part one of the Prydian Civil War background, game tables and statistics, troops and armoury of the Civil War, the Dando II Campaign and three introductory scenarios set within it and an article on just what is The Ion Age. A lot to read in a packed sixty four pages! Go HERE

As well as a packed book you can purchase for wargaming we also offer Patrol Angis as a boxed set with two forces of miniatures to get you started and to play out the starter scenarios. Here is what is contained in the Game Pack and if you take the time to total it up compared to retail price you will see its a deal before any other offers are added.

Lance 1 (Prydian Army)
IAF001 Retained Post Alpha (10)
IAF002 Retained Post Beta (10)
IAF005 Balthazar and Jermone (2)
(Unique Knight Errant with Pistol)

Lance 2 (League of Yordan)
IAF016 Retained Post Delta (10)

IAF030H Duxis Battlesuit (Angis) (1)
IAF046A Espaten Platform (Moth Long barrel) (1)
IAF066 Grav Platform Propulsion Unit (1)
IAF055 Retained Espaten Crew (2)

The miniatures in the game pack are all supplied with our round resin bases as used in all our photographs of miniatures. Extra Value!

You have the choice of purchasing the book or the game pack or the game pack pro-painted and based by the Alternative Armies staff. In all cases you will automatically receive for free the unique Patrol Angis miniature. A Retained Knight Errant! Worth 0.60GBP it is supplied with the book or the game pack and if purchased painted it will also be painted and based. Go HERE

We are running a pre-order offer. Early Supporters of this new game can place their orders for it at 15% off release price on the book and the game pack options. This offer runs from today until about 9am GMT on June 1st 2015 when the month switches over for us and the new monthly free miniature appears. All orders containing Patrol Angis codes will ship from 1st June worldwide.

Remember not only will you get Reward Points (if you have Reward Points by all means use them to save more on this offer!) with your account for an order but you will also automatically get IMP021 Planetary Militia Drill Sergeant (worth 0.60GBP) which is May 2015's free miniature as well! Plus the unique Patrol Angis miniature as well. Go HERE

All orders not containing these pre-order items will ship worldwide as normal. Please note we will have no further releases in May only this offer.

Free Files Coming Soon!
There are more materials coming for Patrol Angis for free. A folder of free PDF files to download that contains not only an additional starter scenario to those in the book but also counters to print out and a quick reference sheet. Bonus fun! More on this soon.

Calling Patrol Angis Playtesters!
Lastly there are sixteen named playtesters in the book and as per our agreement during playtesting in 2013 (yes that long ago!) every one of these wargamers is entitled to rewards. On top of your names being in print in the book you get free stuff! When you place your order for the book or game set you will get the offers as everyone else does but at that point email me on info(at)theionage.com with your order number and items will be added to your order for free. I will inform you of what they are by reply email. Excellent!

I know its been a long wait for this title but its worth it and it marks the full fledge launch of my own dream of space opera wargaming.  A cloud lifted from my brow as it were. There is a lot more to come. Thank you in advance for your orders and for your support. We all appreciate it.

Thanks for Reading.

Coming soon...The Year One Collection!

The Year One Collection...well nearly!
The Ion Age is going to be one year old next month and as I have been hinting at we are going to mark the new month of August 2014 with a monthly miniature and a review of the whole year.  This means that in the early part of August we will be putting a page up on our website that contains the 'Year One Collection' with the option to purchase any of the miniatures from the last year that were given away freely in orders.  There will be the options to purchase each miniature on its own or the set with a saving.

You might have noticed that there are only eleven miniatures in the image here and a handy Ion Age logo covering the twelfth.  This is purposeful...no early looks at it as I want it to be a total surprise to mark our first year.

We do listen to feedback and hundreds of 15mm science fiction wargamers asked us to make the free miniature an item for normal purchase so we did.  It was not our original intention to do this and as I have said before I found it rather upsetting that so many people publically insulted me for giving things away free in all orders.  In any event we will keep making free monthly miniatures and who knows what Year Two will bring.  Thanks as always for your support.  I love 15mm science fiction and from nothing we have gone a long way already.

Thanks for Reading.

IAFL03 Retained Pistoleers released!

Kitt Malory felt the rubbacrete bounce against his back as rounds impacted against it. He breathed in deeply ignoring the dust and smoke, poised himself and then ran full tilt for the next rubbacrete pillar. Bullets whined and sparked after him but he was fast, very fast and he made it to the next pillar and slammed his back into it before the stitching rounds followed him beat into its worn surface. Though he knew both his custom fitted Angis 12.5mm AP Pistols were loaded and ready he spared a moment and checked once more. His life depended on it. Some thought those knights who chose the path of the pistoleer were mad. Not as mad as Knight Errants who would forgo all but the sword but still against several squads of rebel Muster he was quite a disadvantage in terms of fire power. Those who were not of the Code Gallant however did not understand that in taking up the path of Errant or Pistoleers the intense training that went with the path made such knights masters of their chosen arms. Also that unlike the Knight Errant, pistoleers worked in pairs.

Across the pillared room, once part of a prosperous guild frabricatory, the Yordist Muster kept up their fire with their aim being to keep the solitary Retained pinned in front of them. Pinned while they brought up the Charleton's and Anvil's which would be able to blast apart the rubbacrete barriers which were Malorys refuge from the gun fire. Malory was ready now and in his mind he calculated and counted the bullets and as the fire slackened at his lack of appearance and in readiness of magazine changes he sprung his own assault.

In a single fluid movement he turned to face the pillar with a pistol in each hand, his face rounding the pillar for an instant registering targets, his arms expending and the large heavy calibre hand guns going round the rubbacrete as his head came back in. With the Angis Pistols set to single shot he pulled each trigger four times in less than a second and a half. The pistols were back at his side by the time the first Muster fell dead to the ground. From the sound and the screams he estimate he had killed four, wounded three and missed once. Malory chastised himself, perhaps he was nervous after all. But then he had not slept in two days it may well have been fatigue. Hopefully Igraine had not seen him shoot.

Despite the fallen troopers the Muster re-doubled their efforts and the rubbacrete pillar began to loose great shards to the 9mm rounds. They must be really losing it with fury now Malory thought as he huddled as close as possible to the centre and away from the tumbling edges of the pillar. Thousands of bullets for one foe, madness. But then it was this madness that Malory was counting on to save him. Focusing on him and him alone would give his partner time to work around the back of the Muster. A thunder of 12.5mm rounds announced Igraine's arrival.

Kit Mallory emerged once more from the greatly thinned pillar and added his own expert marksmanship to what was now a totally reversed situation. Not a single Yordist survived and as the last one of the enemy slumped to the ground Malory saw Igraine standing with a grin as wide as a Cassilis on her face, reloaded pistols already back on her magnabelt. He spoke softly and across the top of the heap of bodies.

You took your time. Nearly cost me an arm.”

Igraine Malory continued to grin and replied.

My dearest I got here as fast as I could. After all I had to deal with the support squad that was inbound as well. But I see you can cope well enough..apart from that shot you missed of course.”

Kitt Malory returned the smile.

Igraine. As usual you don't miss a thing”.

Santa Desteria - IMP04 Free Miniature for December 2013

Its Santa Desteria!

Jingle the Bells and get some Armour Piercing Shells its the month of festive fun at The Ion Age.  December sees a new FREE MINIATURE for the whole of the month.  Santa Desteria is the big guy with the sack of goodies in the image above and you get him free cast in high quality white metal in ANY order placed with us.

That's right.  Until the 1st January you will get one IMP04 miniature free in every order placed on The Ion Age website.  From one miniature to a pack of miniatures, to a Havelock or Hab Dome or a pack of SupaBases or dice and so on; one IMP04 will be placed automatically in your package. There is no limit per customer on the number of orders and every order earns you points on your account. Build up points and get discounts and other freebies!  A win for everyone.

In fact even if you are not keen on our 15mm Miniatures you could try the 28mm Ion Age or our rulebooks or just get some accessories for your collection.  Once the month is up this miniature will vanish forever!

After customer requests you can also buy this miniature like a normal product in your cart.  You can find it in the Latest Releases list on the front page of The Ion Age website.  You would also get another free with an order contining the miniature!

IMP04  A big festive fellow at 23mm tall
Following on from The Knight of the Dead this is another themed miniature from The Ion Age.  Its the largest free miniature yet at 23mm tall and wearing Noblesse powered armour.  This miniature is just pure fun in the style of long ago wargaming, we did this for giggles and not much else! Above you can see a series of images composite that I made up for this blog post on top of the official slide at the top of this post and on The Ion Age website.  I increased the light levels a bit more and took pictures from the rear and the side and a scale image with a Khanate Legionary.

Santa Desteria comes from the mind of Sam Croes and captures this Desteria Knight Commander (as he surely must be) in mid stride with a large sack of presents over his shoulder and a furred cap on his head.  Ready to spread tidings of joy with his Impact Fist.  Would you paint yours up for festive fun or in other colours for a special character?
In any event the one in the pictures is now in the glass case of destiny in our office where it joins the ever growing line of Ion Age miniatures.

Lastly there is now a page on the Ion Age Website that showcases present and former free monthly miniatures. Have a look.

Looking at the first Month of The Ion Age

IMP01 The Kneeling Knight to be retired on 30th September 2013
At midnight on the 30th of September the first free miniature we offer on all placed orders, the Kneeling Retained Knight, will come to the end of its run and be retired forever.  Another free miniature with all orders will take its place on October 1st but in this post I would like to look back at what has been an awesome first long month for this new wargaming enterprise.  What we have done and where we are going next.  In fact if this posting proves popular enough I will do it every time the miniature changes!

Lets begin where a wargaming brand should with the new releases.  Since we began with the original core of the 15mm Ion Age miniatures we added firstly the archive codes Retained, Muster, Nox and Malig before mixing in half a dozen brand new poses of Retained into codes IAF001 to IAF004.  We were ready to begin in earnest and the website went live.

Since our launch we have released the following codes all sculpted and painted by our lead designer Sam Croes:

IAF005 Balthazar and Jerome

IAF006 Legionary 1st Tesseran
IAF007 Legion 'Canthus' Monocycle Set

IAF008 Retained Post Charlie

IAF009 Desteria Demi Alpha

IAFL01 Hackett and Tasker (500 Limited Packs)

IAFL02 Grimwood and Wyrme (500 Limited Packs)

IAF010 Desteria Demi Beta

This is a total of thirty six miniatures in weekly releases so we have more than doubled in size since launch.  Not only that but we expanded the 15mm Ion Age into the wider scope of the existing 28mm Ion Age range with several new ideas and new types of troops.

IAF006 saw the first of many to come 15mm Shia Khan Legion packs which brought a new 15mm force into being which had been requested hundreds of times over on 15mm.co.uk.  IAF008 brought new Retained Knights for the first time in more than a decade. IAF005 brought us character miniatures and gave us the first space opera heroes to follow in the future.  IAF007 replaced the original Khanate Monocycle from the HOF Range with a better Canthus MkII.  Brought into being for the first time ever also were 15mm versions of the Ion Age Desteria Knights in super heavy armour in IAF009. Last but not least two limited edition codes which brought collect ability to the Ion Age and introduced limited codes to 15mm science fiction as I outlined on my own personal blog.

This first month also saw the beginning of playtesting for our initial 15mm rules set Patrol Angis.  Twenty persons chosen from more than sixty applicants.  Six weeks of testing on a rules set which I feel is one of my very best.  Testers include Bob Minadeo rules writer and Flintloque fan and Chris Knowles he of Dropship Horizon along with Orcs in the Webbe guru Craig Andrews so it is a great group with a lot of experience.

I have ten years experience in this industry and want it to keep the fun and originality that makes wargaming a fantastic hobby.  Not for it to fall into 'cookie cutter' sameness.

The next month will see the Ion Age expand onwards and introduce more firsts for us and also items that are not miniatures but something else entirely.  We will maintain the weekly releases giving you material to play with now instead of promises of something off in the future.

I would like to end with a sneak peek at October 2013's free miniature with all orders.  There will be a separate post on it but I wanted to show it now.

Thank you, all of you who have supported the team especially myself and Sam Croes in bringing to life an idea that both of us adore and want to share with the wargaming world.  We have been let down sure but we have been supported by a great many.  So bring on the Space Opera, the Heroic, the Knights in Space!

IAFL01 Hackett & Tasker and IAFL02 Grimwood & Wyrme Released!

The meeting of Knight Commander's Tasker and Grimwood was no accident. It was well known to Obermann that these were two of the toughest and most resourceful knights under his grand retinue. They had quested together in the Vauldo system back in 4312IC against the Gryre and their actions had led the civilian population to safety long enough to get them into orbit. To take on the Styx Legion in the ruins of Pelcan City it would need Knight Commanders of note, of fierce determination and who had already proved their mettle. Hackett had been wounded a dozen times, including the loss of his right arm at Vauldo, since he took up the Code Gallant and now only Cynue enhancements kept him alive inside his Alwite armour but no one could question his courage. Grimwood was often silent for days preferring data pulse communication with his lances over voice comms rumour had it that he spoke only when killing a foe. Obermann assigned both of them a Gauntlet each as is befitting a Knight Commander and with more than five hundred Retained each they gave the Khanate hell. Visiting on those aliens a measure of what they had done to Camarthan Prime. I met Knight Commander Hackett on the Lemur's Eyes and begged him to make me his aide.”
