Celesta Lament an umpire driven Patrol Angis scenario by Vic Dobson

It is my delight to present a Patrol Angis scenario for free download written by Vic Dobson.  It is called Celesta Lament and it is rather unusual as it is our first published umpire driven scenario featuring a Prydian Player and a Khanate Player alongside a third to oversee.  The free PDF is hosted on our website and in its pages it is split into three parts and each of the players should only look at their own relevant part to keep the adventure fresh.

Celesta Lament
In this Ion Age scenario, a Prydian Noble, newly arrived on Camarthen Prime, is assigned to command a powerful force of Prydian Precinct troops who are preparing to conduct a rearguard action against the overwhelming might of the invading Khanate Empire. But such is the state of chaos and dislocation in the Prydian headquarters that things are not as they seem, and so even as the our heroic Noble travels to his new command, at the front line the situation has already begun to disintegrate…

You will need all three of the Patrol Angis books in order to play this tense scenario.  Click HERE to download the five page PDF.  Well done Vic!

Get yourself some Mullo Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFV) or Mullo Armoured Personnel Carriers (AFV) the medium vehicle between the Adder and the mighty Taranis.  Designed by Sam Croes these vehicles come in wheeled or tracked or repulsar (anti-gravity) variants with the choice of single or buy three save 10% plus an Early Supporter on until the 23rd March.  See them HERE.  Read the full article about the Mullo on our blog HERE.

Mullo AFV and APC Tracked, Wheeled and AntiGrav 15mm vehicles released

The big release for March 2018 is now online at The Ion Age!  Six different variants of the 15mm Mullo with wheels, tracks and repulsar (anti-gravity) propulsions as Armoured Fighting Vehicle (AFV) and Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC).  Easy to assemble and on average 45mm wide, 80mm long and 30mm tall with resin and white metal parts.  Go HERE for them.  Thanks for your support and read on for more information  plus a free download with the rules for these vehicles in Patrol Angis. Awesome!

“The Prydian Civil War saw the production of the Type 36 Mullo Armoured Fighting Vehicle increase six fold.  Though Retained regiments had made use of them since the Battle of Fenway Prime, the design of the Mullo was entirely new unlike those of the Skylark and Adder which dated from before the Ban of Prejudice.  Its original fabrication pattern was laid down on New Glastonbury to fill a need for a ground vehicle that could provide fire power in excess of that offered by battlesuits such as the Havelock but not that needed by a battle tank like the Taranis series.  Restricted to the ranks of the Retained, the Type 36 was made to accommodate powered armoured knights with larger hatches and linked controls along with internal space suited to knights.  As it stood Adders were cheaper and faster to make and could pack a punch but their size meant they were really the domain of the Muster and some lucky Planetary Militia.  The Type 36 was given its name by the Council of Addans who with a node to the mighty Taranis took another ancient Terrain deity of celtic origins and knowing it would be a work horse of a vehicle gave it a name thus.

This auto-trainer vid is centred on the Type 36W Mullo AFV marks.  Those with a wheeled mode of movement rather than the other commonly seen Type 36G repulsar marks of the Mullo which float off the ground.  Used on worlds and asteroids where the native magnetic fields make replusars impracticable or in urban combat where rubble and enemy action requires tires on the turf for security.  In this regard its six mighty wheels provide powerful motive abilities and are capable of shrugging off small arms fire and near misses from Anvil 888 rounds.  There are seven different current marks of Type 36W Mullo AFV's.  The more common ones are the 36WA, 36WB and 36WC in which the only differences are the twin load outs of the turret support grade weapons.  Twin Valerin 15MW Laser Cannons give the Type 36WA an energy based weapons platform good against armour and aircraft.  The twin Fretan  II Rail Guns give the Type 36WB a pure anti-vehicle role in the field and the Type 36WC is every effective against enemy infantry and battlesuits with twin Angis 25mm AP Cannons.  The other common mark is the Type 36D which is in the 'battle bus' configuration giving up its primary weapons for additional space and hatches as an Armoured Personnel Carrier.  Other marks include those designated 'super blue' which is a tank hunter and the 'long bow' mark which carries heavy Anda Missile Pods for artillery support.  These are rarer but present in many regiments.

All marks of Mullo AFV's have a titanium composite hull making them rugged and durable and can be driven with a minimum of complex training. There has been a call for additional anti-personnel ball mounted micro turrets for Mullo's in action in urban warfare and these upgrades have been rolled out where possible.”
Academy Auto-Trainer Series 18, New Glastonbury, 4329 IC

The Mullo is the medium size of vehicle in our range in 15mm scale which is ideal for Retained Knights, Muster and Planetary Militia. Bigger than the Adder series of Combat Cars and smaller than the Taranis Main Battle Tank this is the wheeled AFV variant of the model. There are six different Mullo kits.  Three medium fighting vehicles and three medium personnel carriers.  Here are their details and on the page for each there are more images including scale and parts.  You can purchase one or three with a saving.

Players of Patrol Angis using the heavy vehicle expansion title Callsign Taranis are most welcome to CLICK HERE to download from our website a free article with game statistics and more in it for use of these six new vehicles in play.  There are other free articles which can be had for Patrol Angis HERE on the website by following the links hosted on our website.  Enjoy!

Lastly a note upon the nature of the new Mullo 2.0.  Those of you who have been with The Ion Age since 2014 and been playing Patrol Angis may well have a wheeled Mullo in your collection.  This is now the Mark One and is gone and out of production permanently so if you have it you are fortunate and have a piece of history on your table which is still perfectly useful in play.  The re-design of the Mullo for this Mark Two set of six variants was needed in order to give other means of propulsion and once we had done that we thought a new turret would suit better and then we wanted to give you all the weapon options included plus a pintle mount..so here we are.  At once the same and not the same.  The Mullo...workhorse of the Prydian Precinct.

Arcticon this weekend and March 2018 at The Ion Age

The month of the spring offensive is here at The Ion Age and it will be a bumper month of space opera wargaming fun with us.  We have some news for you beginning with a convention we are involved with happening this weekend in the USA and then a month long offer saving 25% off one of our popular packs and lastly an outline of what you can expect from us during March.  Plus remember you can playtest Starvaulters (HERE) for Patrol Angis now by getting the free download.  Lets get started!

“ArctiCon is a local Northwest Indiana charity gaming and pop culture convention. We work to build community in a family friendly safe environment at a reasonable cost to raise funds to support veterans and our community. We hope to see you at our premier con and other supported events throughout the year!  ArctiCon 2018 opens at 8am at St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church - Merrillville, Indiana on Saturday, 03. March 2018 ending 22.00pm.  See this page for location details and on Facebook HERE for the event.”

There will be an all day Ion Age event at Arcticon playing Patrol Angis.  Organised by Ben Starkey and Aris Kolehmainen you are welcome to come along and have a play plus there will be prizes and give away miniatures arranged in conjunction with us here in Scotland.  It is a shame we cannot attend but since all the airports in Scotland are currently closed and we are arm pit deep in mold making we just can't!  If you attend please go along to the Alternative Armies Tabletop Wargaming Group on Facebook and post up your Ion Age related thoughts and pictures from the day.  We would love to see them.

I was treated to a first look at the Standee for Arcticon and you can see it above.  Lovely looking artwork of the Chard Company in the Prydian Precinct.  Arcticon promises to be a top notch 15mm scale science fiction and more convention so if you can get to Merrillville Indiana this Saturday check it out.

All this month we have a 25% off normal price offer for you.  It is a mecha good offer on the IAF128 Afara Strider on all three variants of this light class war walker.  Easy to assemble with a degree of pose of its resin parts the Afara stands 55mm tall when built.  Read all about it HERE.  Rules for the Afara are in Callsign Taranis the expansion to Patrol Angis which you can fine HERE in print or as a digital download.  Offer ends 1st April 2018.  Thanks.

March 2018 will see a major new release at The Ion Age as well as a mega free scenario by Vic Dobson for the second Khanate War.  All of these new releases will occur along with an Early Supporter Offer on 9th March lasting two weeks.  While details of the new releases will occur at the time I know you will be keen to get a clue as to what they will be.  Well some IonFans have contacted us pointing out that the Mullo AFV our six wheeled medium vehicle is not on the website...that is because it is being replaced this month!  Yes a 2.0 version.  A new Mullo Armoured Fighting Vehicle will be released in kit form with three different propulsion methods and an APC option too giving your Retained Knights and Muster transport against the Barons and the Shia Khan. Not long to wait.

Thank you as always for your support with our little space opera brand.  We work hard and we make quality miniatures to continue to expand this sci-fi universe that you all so enjoy.

Play Test rules for Starvaulters in Patrol Angis on our Facebook Group

Work is progressing upon the forth book in the series for Patrol Angis the 15mm scale space opera wargame from The Ion Age.  I over see all of the titles published by and going to be published by Alternative Armies and The Ion Age and such with several new titles ongoing the work on Baron has been slow. Sorry!  Baron will be a source book for the Prydian Precinct with a focus upon the Civil War and the Marcher Barons.  Within Baron one new faction will be introduced...The Starvaulters.  The best of the best and the true Knights of the Stellar Vastness who live by the Code Gallant.

Do you want to try out the new rules?

In Baron this new faction is the only part of the book with all new game mechanics.  There are other new rules in the book too but these are smaller in scope and inserted into existing frameworks. The Starvaulters need some final testing.  We have done the initial play in house and have got them all but ready after two attempts but we are now offering a chance to field these knights to those interested.  Feedback upon the new troops, infantry scale vehicles, personalities, gear and skills is most welcome.  These are powerful troops.  Everything in the play test document will be featured in the final book and we are already making the miniatures too.  In fact in the document is an image of the first Starvaulter sculpts.  Every person who assists in the testing will be credited in the book.

If you wish to get the play testing document then go to the Alternative Armies Tabletop Gaming group on Facebook and download it from the post on the group where it is attached.  It will be there for the next several weeks and you are most welcome to come along and talk Patrol Angis.  Just apply to join our friendly group and then throw some dice.  As you would expect you do need a copy of Patrol Angis in print or digital to make use of the play test document.  You can find the game HERE on our website.

Baron has been slowly building up with me since last year and this is the final stage of testing needed for it.  See you on the group!

Sinews of War blog on an Ion Age adventure

It always gives me great pleasure to learn of a new blog or other place where wargamers are enjoying The Ion Age and when Bugbear contacted me about his recently begun site 'Sinews of War' I had to check it out.  It is a place with a lot of energy and sense of purpose.  Go HERE and have a look.

“Attack Orbs. What image does that phrase bring to mind, if it is not large, deadly ‘monowheel’ killer machines, there is probably something wrong with your mental imagery.”

The most recent update on the Sinews of War concerned the authors new collection of Khanate Attack Orbs such as the Sphera.  A dozen added to his Shia Khan ready to roll out and crush the puny Prydian Army who resist them.

“When I started with Patrol Angis, I realised that I had almost no scenery. So I dug out some tree’s (see Forestry Post) and ordered some buildings from Ion Age. I ordered what I consider quite a large batch of buildings, Cratered Hab Dome, Smashed Hab Dome,Tower Module, Hab Dome, Landing Pad, Block House and Command Dome. They arrived promptly, and I got to work”

There are other postings such as beginning in Ion Age terrain with Hab Domes and Tower Modules for Bugbear's gaming table and talking about Maligs and their Ordos platoon pack and Infernus Ball Tank.  As well as musings on the Khanate Empire.  The blog is well with bookmarking and have a read.  I will be a regular reader. Go HERE.

If you have a blog or other online place where you play Patrol Angis or have painted up our miniatures or written about them or some fiction please do let me know by email to info@theionage.com or in comments.  Plus you can join the Facebook group I run called Alternative Armies Tabletop Gaming Group where we often talk about Patrol Angis.

Next week the full Ordos platoon pack of Beotan space Werewolves are released!  Our main release for the month.  A new pack of rifle poses plus the platoon which includes an additional free unique miniature.  I know many of you have been waiting for them so it is not long at all now.

Thanks for Reading,
